School of the Year 2016

In what was a magnificent event, opened by the St Mary’s School choir, our fantastic sporting year culminated with St Mary’s school being named School of the Year at the Ashton on Mersey Family of Schools’ Sports Awards Evening.

Children in Year 2 and Year 6 were also individually recognised for their sporting achievements.

We swept the board, winning all of the Key Stage 2 sports festivals and the Sports Council were recognised for their fantastic work.

Our excellent year of sporting success continued this term.  We took two teams to the Year 6 Dodgeball Tournament with both teams performing exceptionally well.  One of our teams went all the way to be crowned Trafford Champions.  They went on to do our school proud at the Greater Manchester Games, performing with skill and sportsmanship.  Having played a gruelling 27! games of Dodgeball, we qualified for the semi-finals, narrowly losing out in a sudden death play-off to claim 4th place, a tremendous achievement at Greater Manchester Level.  They were named Team of the Year at the Ashton on Mersey Sports Awards.
