St.Mary's Sports Bulletin (Spring)

Our winning Basketball and Lacrosse teams attended the Manchester Winter Games.  The opening ceremony at Sport City was great fun as the children had the opportunity to watch a variety of sports related entertainments, such as football tricks and acrobatics on blades.

Both teams succeeded in reaching the quarter finals of their respective sports.  A great day was had by all! With thanks to Mr Jordan and Mrs Wolstenholme for their coaching of the teams.

Our Basketball team also had the privilege of attending a home game of the Manchester Giants and during the interval were presented with the Trafford Basketball Trophy.

Boots for Kenya appeal.

We have had a fantastic response to the appeal for football boots and kits for Kenya. Mr Youd has sent his thanks to pupils and parents for their kind donations. Hopefully this will continue    permanently as their children grow and we can help MANY Kenyan youths with the boots in the coming months and years. UNICEF has said it will ship the boots for free now as well. We will continue to collect in school, so please do continue to send items into school.

Our school rugby team performed incredibly well in tricky conditions at the Trafford Tag Rugby Tournament.  The team played some brilliant attacking rugby, going unbeaten in their group only to narrowly loose out to the eventual winners in the quarter finals.

Our girls’ team took part in the Sale and Partington League Tournament.  They played with great determination and really enjoyed the two evenings of football.  They came fourth in the league overall.  Well done girls.

We took a team of Year 5 and 6 to a football tournament at Sale United.  The team played with a fantastic attitude and drew two and lost two matches. The school 6-a-side football team performed really well at the annual Manchester United Tournament at the Cliff Training Ground.  There were lots of goals scored and a great attitude shown.

Tackling Numbers

The Years 3 and 5 children have enjoyed the Tackling Numbers sessions with Sale Sharks.  The children were delighted when the coaches Jo and Rick were joined by Hendrie Fourie, Ex Sale Sharks and England International rugby player.

“Sale Sharks make learning fun,

As well as playing rugby in the sun,

They helped us learn maths in class

As well as how to tag, run and rugby pass”
